Unforgettable
The wonders of technology enabled Natalie Cole to create a famous “Unforgettable” duet with her iconic father Nat King Cole long after he left this earth. Imagine being able to do this with your father. I did!
Incredibly, I have been able to do this with my iconic father—even though my father has been gone more than 20 years. My father was one of the pioneers in crown and bridgework and full mouth reconstruction. I have the slide collection he massed during his 50-year career and I know that no one will ever match the sheer quality and volume of the work he did. The work he did cannot be matched or duplicated with the fanciest technology. My father also gave numerous presentations all over the country and wrote a book that became a best seller published in several languages. He also gave live demonstration courses on patients to dentists for 40 years and I was fortunate enough to teach many of those courses with him. Of course that was when he was alive…
My father was extremely forward thinking. He began taking pictures of cases in 1950—way before it was customary to take pictures. When I was 15 years old in 1968, he had a hundred doctors come to the office for a live demonstration course. I was there that day and I remember! The office was located in a 5-story office building at the center of Scarsdale, NY. The doctors were seated in the Masonic temple on the fifth floor watching black and white TVs that were set up with wires that went out the window to the third floor where the office was located. My father did a live demonstration on a patient preparing teeth and sculpting the gingiva and bone to ideal architecture. He then showed 8 other finished cases. A film crew recorded the entire event.
I inherited two large reels of 16mm film from that day and more than 50 years later I had them digitized. Because I worked in the office from the time I was 16 years old, I knew all the patients and their case histories. I also collected all the pictures and X-Rays of the patient-models that I was able to find. Some of the patients were in the practice for over 50 years and I did work on them as well. I discovered that there were amazing stories to tell here! After digitizing the film and cutting it into snippets, I put together a course. My father did the case demonstrations and I provided the background, commentary and subsequent history for each case.
The work that my father did in the demonstrations is based on techniques that have a real track record of success. The basic principles that contribute to success are not “old fashioned” but timeless. The education recorded here is not only educational, it is available nowhere else.
Just like Natalie and her Dad, performing with my Dad is truly Unforgettable!
