Newly Renovated Philosophy Courses Put You On Track for Success
We have arranged the courses in an order we call the “Success Path.” This means that the courses will have pre-requisites before you can take them. It has been our experience that without taking the courses in order students are never really able to understand the whole picture. Students become confused when they have too many influences and preconceived notions that interfere with learning this new approach. We noticed that most visitors to the website in its trial period completely avoided the philosophy section. As a result, most were never really able to appreciate or assimilate the material in the subsequent sections.
If you follow our success path, you will be taken to heights you never believed possible. We know you have an extensive wish list for what you would like to get from your membership. If you follow the success path, your wishes will be fulfilled. Here is a list of wishes I’m sure are on your list:
What if you could prevent recurrent decay under your crowns?
What if you never had to worry about crowns falling out ever again?
What if your days were almost never interrupted by patients needing to have temporary and permanent crowns recemented? Imagine what you could accomplish!
What if you could save teeth that most dentists want to extract? Perhaps you are quick to extract teeth because you don’t know how to save them. What if you could save them?
Are you worried about exposed crown margins? What if you never had to worry about an exposed margin ever again?
Do you think patients with periodontal bone loss should not have crowns? What if crowns and bridges could be constructed in such a way as to completely eliminate or prevent periodontal bone loss? (They can be.)
Are you afraid of bridgework because you have had bad experiences? Are you reluctant to do full arch restorations on natural teeth? What if you had none of these fears and were excited to accept these challenges?
What if you could learn to provide new treatment options for patients that you are currently turning away—treatment options that few of your colleagues offer? What if you could make a treatment plan with a built-in contingency plan in the event that a weak abutment fails?
What if you could offer patients real choices for their dental treatment instead of offering only what you think you could do well?
Do you believe that you have to have fancy technology to do great dentistry? What if you could solve restorative problems and achieve excellence with very little technology?
We have real answers to these questions. My Dad and I amassed a collection of thousands of cases over a time span of 70 years…all the teeth prepared and handled the same way and the cases followed for decades with X-Rays. We will teach you the basic principles that are responsible for the tremendous success we have enjoyed in full coverage restorative dentistry. We will show you our successes and our failures.
We are going to teach you sound, repeatable, step-by-step techniques that simplify dentistry—we are not here to wow you with our prowess or dazzle you with complexity. These techniques have a 70-year track record and you will be on solid ground when you follow them. Sadly, they are not taught in any dental school, and you won’t find them anywhere else. This is the REAL evidence-based dentistry from a clinical perspective.
We are a non-profit organization and our only goal is make you a better dental practitioner so that you can provide the highest quality care to your patients. We know that the most rewarding feeling in the world is seeing your patients at hygiene recall visits and watching the work that you did last in health year after year. Your patients know that you did something great for them because their friends who go elsewhere continue to have dental troubles. They know you are great!
It is our goal to teach you everything we know. Teaching and learning go hand in hand and by teaching you—believe it or not—we will learn as well. We encourage you to ask questions and our door is always open. You may ask a question or offer a suggestion at any time by sending an email to info@theONWARDprogram.com. We have an online library of additional resources that you can download, including an entire textbook. Do not forget to visit our library during the course of your studies. We also have links to other sites that may be helpful to you. We welcome your suggestions for course topics, library materials and our links collection.
The pursuit of excellence begins with a mindset and it is a journey—a process, if you will. And that process begins with Philosophy. We have completely renovated the philosophy courses this year. We are going to open your eyes to an entirely different approach to Full Coverage Restorative Dentistry—a different way of examining and treating patients.
Be forewarned that we will shatter myths and preconceived ideas that almost all dentists harbor–myths that prevent them from answering the questions that were just posed. Please begin with a mind that is open to new learning and a new point of view. When you are free of the shackles of deep-seated beliefs you will be AMAZED at what you will be able to accomplish. Everything you do will make sense and you will understand the WHY as well as the HOW. When you let go of the truths you were indoctrinated with, the impossible suddenly becomes the possible.
Philosophy is the logical place to start—for without a solid philosophical basis for why you’re doing what you’re doing you can never truly advance.
The word “Philosophy” comes from the Ancient Greek word “philosophia” which means “love of wisdom.” Philosophybasics.com says that at its simplest, philosophy is the study of knowledge, or “thinking about thinking.”
Although the study of philosophy may not yield “the meaning of life, the universe and the magic of full coverage restorative dentistry, philosophers believe that it is important to examine the big questions—like the ones I just posed to you.
In fact, Socrates said that the unexamined life is not worth living. Well, we say that the unexamined full coverage restorative dentistry is not worth doing.
The Philosophy section will challenge you to think more clearly about a wide range of dental issues and conduct an in-depth examination of Dentistry’s deep-seated beliefs. Congratulations for accepting our challenge! If you follow our success path you will learn to do dentistry that you can truly hang your hat on. We want you to develop the confidence to tackle the tough cases and develop great pride in your work. We want you to enjoy the fun that we have had with full coverage restorative dentistry and we want you to sleep well at night, knowing that you are on solid ground with everything that you do.
